Students for Life at Saint Louis University

Our Philosophy

No student should ever have to choose between having a child and having an education. Recognizing that pregnancy and parenting can cause isolation, financial hardship, or other constraints for university students, Students for Life at Saint Louis University is committed to creating a culture of life on campus founded on the values of education, community, and support.

Education:

The Virginia D. Murphy Endowment for Pregnant and Parenting Student Assistance provides valuable resources, so students facing the unexpected challenges of pregnancy and parenting can stay on track toward earning a degree.

Community:

One of the greatest aspects of SLU is its vibrant community. In addition to helping pregnant and parenting students stay in school, this program seeks to help them stay connected to the SLU community.

Support:

With your help, pregnant and parenting students will have greater access to:

  • Financial aid
  • Healthcare options
  • Childcare
  • Academic support
  • Housing options
  • Other vital necessities

Words of Thanks from Past Recipients

"I wanted to say thank you to the Pregnant and Parenting Student Assistance fund. While I am busy making sacrifices to help me and my family, it is nice to know that there are others out there willing to make sacrifices to help me. I can't thank you enough for this grant and my children and I are so grateful."

"I don't think that people truly realize the pressure that comes along with working full time, going to school and being the sole provider for your children. I have experienced a lot of stress over school and finances. This grant takes a huge financial weight off my shoulders that allows me to focus more on my studies. I think the PPSA program is the best kept secret at SLU. A male classmate whose wife just had their third child was having financial issues obtaining his textbook for class and he had never heard of the PPSA program. I wish that more parenting and pregnant students both male and female knew that this organization exists and really does help students."

"This money changes everything for us and I can't thank you and the committee enough! Words are incapable of expressing our thanks and gratitude nor can they convey the emotional relief to which your 'helping hand' provides... this only hardens my resolve even more to become a better parent, a better spouse, and a better friend. It is so easy to lose sight of what's important when life becomes extremely stressful."

"I would like to say thank you for aid from PPSA! I am so grateful and filled with joy that with help from PPSA I am able to continue my education at SLU. Again, I cannot quite put into words my gratitude. I will definitely be initiating conversations and discussing cultural change on our campus. Thank you again!"
